Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) will offer a bonus of Rp500 million (US$33.6 thousand) to the national team on winning the final match of the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-16 Cup.
“Thank God (for the achievement). We will give Rp500 million to the boys. It is in accordance with my promise to them,” General Chairperson of PSSI Mochamad Iriawan stated here on Friday.
Iriawan remarked that the Rp500-million bonus will complement the earlier incentives given to the U-16 national team.
Earlier, the squad had received a bonus of Rp100 million (US$6.7 thousand) for their success in reaching the semi-final of the tournament after defeating Vietnam 2-1 in the last match of Group A on August 6, 2022.

Furthermore, the team received another bonus of Rp150 million (US$10.08 thousand) after winning the penalty shoot-out, with a score of 5-4, over Myanmar in the semi-final, as both the teams managed to score one goal each during the regular duration of the match that took place on August 10, 2022.
The chairperson of PSSI assessed that the U-16 national team deserved the bonuses since it had shown commendable performance throughout the tournament.
“For my boys, the U-16 national team, you had played brilliantly. It cannot be separated from the contribution of Coach Bima Sakti. You had given your best to the Indonesian people,” he remarked.
Indonesia successfully won the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup after defeating Vietnam 1-0 in the final match at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman District, Yogyakarta Province, on Friday evening.

The goal was scored by the squad’s midfielder, Muhammad Kafiatur Rizky, in the first half of the match.
Thus, Indonesia currently has two AFF U-16 Championship titles after having earlier won the 2018 AFF U-16 Cup held in Sidoarjo District, East Java Province.
Meanwhile, Vietnam had earlier also secured the second place in the tournament in 2016.
Furthermore, the Indonesian U-16 national team will prepare to compete in the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-17 Asian Cup qualification.
